Transitioning from Vita Prep

Transitioning from Vita Prep to Vita Consilium
Many of our Vita Prep students and families wonder what it takes to move into Consilium. While being part of Prep gives you a strong foundation, transitioning to Consilium is not automatic. The next step requires readiness, not just age or grade completion.
What Readiness Looks Like
Students are ready to move into Consilium when they consistently show:
Academic Readiness
Able to complete middle school–level work independently.
Project Ownership
Meeting deadlines and following through on both class and personal projects.
Professional Habits
Maintaining a baseline of focus and seriousness during work time. We don’t expect perfection — middle schoolers will still be kids — but we do expect the ability to shift gears and take work seriously when needed.
Community Fit
Respect for peers, advisors, and the studio environment.
Student-Led Readiness
Sometimes a student may feel ready before their parents expect it. In these cases, students can self-advocate by telling us directly that they’re ready to be considered for Consilium. We’ll guide them through a short readiness reflection where they explain why they feel prepared, using evidence from their own work and habits.
